Quiet in Class! Does IT add the wrong kind of buzz?

A recent story about a Norwegian school switching from PCs to thin client computers spotlighted a little mentioned problem with current classroom IT: noise. When the new thin clients were installed the Norwegian  teachers remarked on how quiet their classes were because thin clients don’t have fans. In older or poorly maintained PCs fan noise can be a problem. Hunting around on this topic we found an interesting US article on the subject which talks about the need for good class room acoustics and noise limits on air conditioning systems.  Wonder what the UK standard on classroom noise is?
